Overwatch is the game that proved Blizzard can essentially do anything it wants. It's a first-person shooter with co-op elements and a MOBA twist thrown in for good measure. And it's done brilliantly both in the world of real people, and in the make-believe land of eSports, where it's one of the biggest games. But, and it's a big but, you can't get it for mobile. That's not to say that there aren't alternatives though.

Alternatives like the ones we've put together in this list. There are some games you'd expect to be there, there are games you might expect to be there, and there's the standard 148Apps left-field, "what on earth is that doing there!?!" choice as well.

Obviously if you've got your own suggestions, feel free to stick them in the comments section at the bottom of the article. And if you're interested in list-based content, click here to check out all of the other lists we've made in recent time for your reading and perusal pleasure.

Modern Combat Versus

There are going to be a few games like Modern Combat Versus on this list. Games that capture some of the thrills of Overwatch, but never quite manage to create a style all of their own. Modern Combat Versus is a solid and sometimes intriguing military shooter that's got enough twists to make it easy to recommend. There's wall-running for one thing. Who doesn't love wall-running?

Shadowgun Legends

Essentially a shooter MMO hybrid, Shadowgun Legends is a bright and boorish blaster that's all about XP going up and enemies going down. There's PvP and PvE here, so you can take on foes with your friends or join together to bring down the other team in quick and exciting multiplayer blasts. And sometimes you'll get to see a giant statue of yourself in the middle of the game's hub, which is amazing.

Guns of Boom

A team-based multiplayer shooter that, while it does have its tongue somewhere close to its cheek, still offers some of the best murder-y entertainment that the App Store has to offer. If you're looking for a game that's going to get you into eSports on the go, then this is almost certainly the FPS that you should be checking out. It's got a few niggles here and there, but it's still a load of fun.

Clash Royale

- download for iPhone

Oh hi there left-field choice. Clash Royale might not have the action of Overwatch, but it has some of the MOBA-done-weird stylings that make the game so entertaining. And since you can team up with other players in 2v2 matches to the death, it might actually be the closest you can get to playing Overwatch on your phone. Albeit a zoomed-out, no shooting Overwatch where you're not really in control of what anyone on the screen is doing.

Afterpulse

- download for iPhone

The other games on this list might be newer, shinier, and have more complex ideas than Afterpulse, but if you just want to run around shooting other players in the face, you're not going to go too far wrong if you pick this one. It's simple, it's clever where it needs to be, and come the end of a round you're going to have a smile on your face, win or lose.
