You Are Here is a nice solution for anyone like myself who gets lost easily. No matter how many times I’ve been to the mall, I always find myself searching for one of those maps to figure out exactly where I’m at so I can make my way back to my car. It's also ideal for parks, trails, and college campuses. While the brown interface isn’t exactly attractive, it’s an innovative app that’s worth exploring.

In order to get started, users must either take a picture or choose one from their photo library. I tried taking a picture with the app, and each time I hit use it never showed up inside the app itself. I eventually elected to take a photo of a map with my camera and then use the app to import it. It wasn’t that big of a deal, but I found this to be a little inconvenient. I’m glad that the developer offers this as it can be beneficial for those who wish to pull maps from the internet.

Once a map is opened, it’s time to start placing location markers. When users know where they are on the map, simply tap and hold to add a marker. Users can then move around until they find another place on the map. Tapping and holding again adds a second marker. Users are able to see their position on the map and it updates as they move around.

The app requires two markers in order for users to find their position, but I found that it works better when more markers are placed on the map. It seems like it is a lot more accurate when more markers are placed as it’s able to use the iPhone’s GPS. Like most location service based apps, it will drain your iPhone’s battery so be sure to use it wisely or you may find yourself lost without a way to call anyone.

It’s a convenient way to find your location on a map if you’re not savvy enough to figure it out on your own. I enjoyed being able to zoom in on the map to see everything close up, and it’s great that it stores maps so users can access them later. Perhaps the best feature is the ability to share maps by email.

You Are Here is nice to keep around for when the native Maps app fails to find your location or there aren’t any maps nearby to show your location. It can help lower anxiety for those who fear getting lost when hiking or walking in unfamiliar territory. I’m not sure if I’d want to use it all the time as it takes a lot of effort to continuously drop markers and update my location and it can be a major battery drainer. Since it’s being sold for less than one dollar, it’s easily recommendable to anyone who finds themselves getting lost a lot.
